Blog Archive GMAT Impact Stressed Out Meditate to Lower Your Anxiety and Boost Your GMAT Score

Blog Archive GMAT Impact Stressed Out Meditate to Lower Your Anxiety and Boost Your GMAT Score When it comes to the GMAT, raw intellectual horsepower helps, but it is not everything. In this weekly blog series,  Manhattan GMAT’s  Stacey Koprince  teaches you how to perform at your best on test day by using some common sense. Are you feeling incredibly stressed out when you sit down to study for the GMAT?  Do you find that concentrating on the task at hand is difficult? Researchers at the University of California at Santa Barbara recently published the results of a study following 48 undergrads preparing for the GRE. Jan Hoffman details the research in a blog post  at The New York Times. The motivation for the study “We had already found that mind-wandering underlies performance on a variety of tests, including working memory capacity and intelligence,” said Michael D. Mrazek (quoted from the NYT blog post). We have all had this experience. We are taking a test, the clock is ticking and we keep finding ourselves thinking about something other than the question we are supposed to be answering at that moment. Maybe we are stressing about our score. Maybe we are thinking about applications. Maybe we are even distracted by work, significant others, family or other issues that have nothing to do with the test! How do we stop fixating on other things and concentrate on the task at hand? This study tried to find out. The study First, the students were given some “baseline” tests, including one verbal reasoning section from the GRE (yes, the GRE, not the GMAT). The students were then split into two groups. One group (group M) attended meditation classes four times a week; these students learned lessons on “mindfulness,” which focuses on breathing techniques and helps minimize distracting thoughts. The other group (group N) attended nutrition classes, designed to teach the students healthy eating habits. Afterward, the students did another GRE verbal section. The performance of students in group N stayed the same; the nutritional studies did not make a difference. Group M students, however, improved their GRE scores by an average of 12 percentile points! The students also reported (subjectively) that they were better able to concentrate the second time around; they felt that their minds wandered less than they had before. Here is the best part: the study took just two weeks. How did that happen? The students did not become smarter or learn (much) more in that time frame. Rather, the mindfulness techniques helped the students perform closer to their true potential by reducing negative thoughts or habits that were interfering with performance. Think how much better you could do if you could turn off, or at least minimize, all those distracting thoughts that interrupt you when you are trying to concentrate! How can I use this? That short, two-week time frame is both good news and bad news. The good news is that you can achieve results without having to study meditation for six months. The bad news is that we do not know whether this provides only a short-term boostâ€"the effects may fade over time. So let’s speculate that the effects will fade unless you keep up with a regular meditation schedule. Let’s also assume that most people are not going to make meditation a regular part of their daily life; most will try it for a time and then drop it. Here is what to do, then: Start learning some of these mindfulness techniques about eight weeks before you plan to take the test. Give yourself enough time to learn what to do, and then make these meditation sessions a part of your regular study schedule until you take the test. (If you would like to continue after that, great!) Here is a resource to get you started: the Mindful Awareness Resource Center at UCLA. They offer free meditation lessons and podcasts. They also periodically offer a six-week online course (for a small fee, less than $200 at the time of this publication); in addition to the prerecorded classes, you will be able to take advantage of live chats with an instructor. If you would rather meet with someone in person, run a Google search to find someone in your area. Abnormal Invasion Of Their Personal Space - 851 Words

In this social norm project, my experiment was invading someone else s personal space. The process began by sitting close to a person that was by themselves; then, I started to get close when they looked to another direction or their phones. What normally a person would do when they tired or they want to sit, they mostly sit apart from a stranger or they sit with a distance between them. While do ing the experiment by sitting by someone and getting closer to them when they look away, my mind was in a panic because I was afraid that someone would be rude to me or push me away. Anne Bradstreet and Phyllis Wheatley: Pioneers for Women’s Rights Anne Bradstreet (1600’s) and Phyllis Wheatley (1700’s) wrote poetry in two different centuries. Their topics, themes and the risks these women took in their writings are groundbreaking in that they paved the way for women’s rights today. Both women are known as the first published poets of the new world. Bradstreet’s writings were first published in 1650 and her poetry included controversial subjects such as the relationship between a husband and wife, displays of affection, and women who have made their place in society as leaders. These topics were not typical of women who were brought up a Puritans. In fact, the puritans did not approve of public displays of affection.†¦show more content†¦The very fact that both women dared to write about taboo subjects in their time says a lot about the character of both of them. Their poetry shows that women are concerned with more than just household affairs. They were women of intelligence. They were very brave in the fact that they opened conversations and thoughts regarding how women felt and how they reacted to worldly subjects. Anne Bradstreet and Phyllis Wheatley both had very strong backgrounds in religion. Bradstreet was raised with Puritan beliefs while Wheatley was raised as a Christian. In each of their poems, religion is very prominent. When Bradstreet writes about how much she admires Queen Elizabeth, she does it wittingly, but she does not overstep her religious teachings that women should remain reserved. Bradstreet uses a reference from the book of Genesis to describe how famous the queen was: â€Å"More infamy than fame she did procure. She built her glory but on Babel’s walls,† Phyllis Wheatley’s letter to the Honorable William of Dartmouth has a very religious tone. The language she uses resembles that of prayer in her poems. In her letter she says: â€Å"May heav’nly grace the sacred sanction give To all they works, and though forever live Not only on the wings of fleeting Fame, Though praise immortal crowns the patriot’s name, But to conduct to heav’ns refulgent fane.† She is letting the Earl of Dartmouth

The Old Guitarist And Madame X - 1365 Words

What is art? Over the course of this class, the conclusion I have come to is that anything can be art if someone believes it to be so. Art can be man-made, created from nature, or even something imagined or felt through the senses, yet it is completely subjective to the viewer to decide if what they see is classified as art. I often think of the phrase, â€Å"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder† during class because art is not always beautiful, or even pleasant, but it is a personal perspective. The Old Guitarist and Madame X are two creations that I believe are art, an opinion most people would agree with solely based off the success and fame of the creators, Pablo Picasso and John Singer Sargent, respectively. Being an artist is not always†¦show more content†¦His works during this time were essentially monochromatic paintings in shades of blue and green, though there were occasionally other colors as accents. These blue shades, prevalent in The Old Guitarist, repr esented Picasso’s severe depression as he drew into himself and kept isolated from the rest of society. In contrast, Madame X was painted as a Realist portrait, as expected during the Realism movement. However, the portrait also depicts clear influence of Impressionism in the background as Sargent blurred colors to make the exact definitions of her form unknown, forcing the viewer to feel the background rather than view it, and leave the space mysterious. Sargent was attempting to capture, in his own words, her â€Å"unpaintable beauty and hopeless laziness† and created a timeless painting. The stark contrast between the coloring and styles of these paintings make them indelible to art history. With attention to not only the artists, but the works themselves, I do believe The Old Guitarist and Madame X are both pieces of art. I believe them to be art because both pieces had the intent to capture some type of emotion or moment in time. For Picasso, he was mourning the d eath of his friend and painted the guitar as a symbol for immersing oneself in music, filling the space around the solitary figure. Around 12 million cigarettes are smoked every minute around the world. Around 35% of men in developed nations smoke, compared with 50% of men in developing nations. About 22% of women smoke in developed nations, compared with less than 10% in developing nations. Cigarettes represent the largest share of the tobacco market in sales volume and value. Though consumption levels have fallen, the absolute number of smokers has been climbing along with the global population and disposable incomes, reports Global Industry Analysts. China is the largest regional market for cigarettes. Cigars do not generate the same sales or sell in the same high volume as cigarettes. In a more recent trend, the social cachet attached to cigars has been boosting sales. As consumers become more health conscious, they are opting for cigars for their lower level of harm to health. Cigarillos, which are cigars that way less than three grams, represent the market segments recording the most rapid growth. In the past, cigars have been much less marketed than cigarettes, associated with a different demographic (that of the older male), and have not been paid much promotional attention by companies. Advertising of cigars is on the rise, along with aromatic filter varieties, which appeal more to younger and female demographics, and there are increasing numbers of tobacco-only stores in operation. The three leading companies in the global tobacco market are Philip Morris International, China National Tobacco Corporation and Japan Tobacco. Philip Morris International is the world’s largest tobacco company, which sells its products in 180 countries, and held a 16% stake in the international market outside of the US in 2010. Excluding China, the company holds almost 28% of the global market. As tobacco consumption in developed countries declines due to health awareness, tobacco companies are concentrating more on developing countries, including Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. The industry is focusing its efforts on advertising strategies such as offering low-risk products and re-launching existing products to attract female consumers. More recent product offerings include cigarettes flavored with mint, citrus, and vanilla, and low-risk products with reduced toxins and carcinogens or free of nicotine. The global tobacco industry continues to struggle with negative publicity due to health concerns, high taxes, and state regulations. Once seen as a social pass time, smoking is now perceived as anti-social and damaging to health, causing premature deaths and lunch cancer. Companies are now required to include health warnings on their product labels and are no longer allowed to undertake marketing campaigns. For example in America, the tobacco industry has funded state initiatives that provide resources to help smokers quit smoking as per the  Master Settlement Agreement  regulated by the U. S. government. For example,  Phillip Morris  USA operates a  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Quit Assist†Ã‚  website that acts as a guide for those who choose to quit smoking. Companies and organizations can sponsor events, programs, festivals, performances, individuals, groups, teams, equipment and/or facilities, by providing financial support for activities, promotions and services. Sponsorship refers to the donation of money, services or in-kind support in exchange for recognition of the donation (e. g. , being listed as a â€Å"sponsor† of an event, production or competition). Many companies, including tobacco companies, engage in sponsorship for the purpose of promoting a product or a cause, supporting a needy group, establishing name recognition for a company or brand, earning publicity for a â€Å"good deed,† or building an image for a company, organization or product.

Origins and Management essays

Origins and Management essays In the Middle Eastern culture, terrorism has been an effective way to cause pandemonium for the purpose of political manipulation. The Middle Eastern interests are not cohesive or powerful enough to directly or successfully advocate against the compelling interests of the United States. It cannot face an opponent the size of the U.S. in a military or political fashion so the solution is to resort to a lesser, but equally effective state of domination, by fear. The only way for them to achieve a victory is through random destruction of property or innocent, unsuspecting human victims. Terrorism has been an effective technique for the weak to have an effect over the powerful. From the Middle East's rage against America to the civil war in Ireland, terrorism has taken on many forms. For the purpose of this paper, the Middle Eastern angle and involvement of the United Nations will be discussed. WESTERN PERCEPTIONS OF THE MIDDLE EASTERN TERRORIST Most Americans see Middle Eastern terrorism as a Hollywood depiction. It is not surprising that the American view of the Middle Eastern terrorist is of a psychopathic Islamic without a conscious or reason. In American movies the terrorist is portrayed as a bomb strapped kamikaze that blows up innocents. The seeds of reality are dramatized and the image gives an impression that the Middle Eastern terrorist is not systematic and purposeful. It is assumed that Middle Eastern terrorists act out of religious belief. In reality, this concept is not a logical one. The Muslim, or Islamic religion, does not condone murder. The terrorist groups may use religious concept for political and social momentum, but in fact the true interpretation of the faith cannot be rationalized into their actions. If a terrorist uses the name of Islam to justify their attack, they are blatantly lying. Like all the other religions of God, Islam promotes peace, love and harmony among the people. Actually the w...

Information Security Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Information Security - Essay Example There is also a vast body of empirical evidence that demonstrates that general managers ought to be much more involved in the formulation and implementation of information security because they are more able to assess particular types of risks, more attuned to cost-benefit considerations, and better able to integrate information security into a business organization's larger structure than narrow-minded security specialists (Lacity, 2005). In order to more clearly elaborate how organizations should approach information security issues, this essay will discuss how businesses should strike a balance between information security and information sclerosis and what professional competencies ought to oversee information security policies, procedures, and practices. As an initial matter, it should be noted that information security can be neglected by business organizations (National Institute of Standards and Technology, 1998) as well be over-hyped and made far too complex for complete use (Angus, 2005; Miller, 2005). The most prudent course of action, to be sure, is neither a zero-information security policy nor a systemic approach that is too complex (Angus, 2005) or too expensive (Lacity, 2005) for the organization's needs. A balance needs to be struck. Commenting on a study carried out by the GAO, the National Institute of Standards and Technology established a viable framework for promoting good practices for information security programs; this framework deals with risk assessment, the taking steps to reduce risk, and the creation of a central management group devoted to these risk management functions. This section will address good practices as they pertain to risk assessment and tailoring an information security policy to organizational goals and to remain cost-effective. The essence of an effective risk assessment procedure is not to assume that every conceivable risk can be planned for, but instead to identify steps to reduce the treat of potential risks to levels that are deemed acceptable (Workstation Services Support Group, 1998). This notion of acceptability is crucial to any cost-benefit analysis involving an information security system. The first step is to create a recognition that an organization's informational resources are valuable assets in need of protection. This means creating a pervasive organizational understanding about security risks, new security threats and the procedures for keeping workers informed. The second step is to draft and implement risk assessment procedures which incorporate the information security system into the larger business structure. This means treating information security as a business concern just as much as a technical matter for IT specialists. The third step requires holding individuals accountable for information security issues. This is important as it eliminates the possibility of passing responsibility on to security specialists and demands a comprehensive approach to information security. The fourth and final step requires that security risks be monitored and

Treatment of Schizophrenia Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Treatment of Schizophrenia - Essay Example Disorganization of speech - It is a condition when person shows inconsistency in his speech. Usually this develops due to thinking disorder. Affected person can speak very fast or can frequently change topics in between sentences or can say sentences with words but no meaning (word salad). Genetic reasons, prenatal exposure to infections, social life style and some times use of drugs can develop schizophrenia. Two types of genetic disorders can be assigned with schizophrenia. One is deletion or duplication of copy number variant (i.e. very small DNA sequences) from genes responsible for the development of brain and neural signaling (Walsh et al. 2008). The other is some complex interaction of some unspecific genes through linkage i.e. when some genes co-occur then only their expressions develop the disorder (Owen et al. 2005). Early developments in neurological stages are considered to be most critical for the development of the disorder. Prenatal exposure to infection can be a major cause. Studies also have suggested that the pathology of development within uterus and development of the conditions are linked together (Brown, 2006). Socio-economic conditions can also become causes for schizophrenia. Generally these are racial discrimination, poverty, unemployment, poor living, experience of trauma in juvenile condition, relationship disorder in parents, etc (Mueser et al. 2004), (Selten et al. 2007). Drugs A huge number of Schizophrenics or similar type of patients remains under medication for a prolonged period. So, it is hard to analyze if use of drug causes schizophrenia or the use of drugs develops due to the disorder. A meta-analysis estimated that increase in the dose of cannabis could develop behavioral disorders like schizophrenia (Moore et al. 2007). Mechanism of schizophrenia Patho-physiological mechanism Many psychological researches have been conducted to determine the development of schizophrenia. Horror Story Example Essay The girl stumbled and rolled down the grassy hill, pulling her fiance with her. For a few minutes they fell, rolling on top of each other before landing in a heap on the soft sand below. The woman looked at the man below her, affection filling her eyes as she smiled subconsciously. â€Å"What are you smiling at? † He inquired flipping her over so he was on top of her. â€Å"Just wondering if why on earth I’m marrying someone as ugly as you; do you think it’s too late to pull out? † The girl answered giggling. â€Å"Oh really!† Her fiance answered standing up, grabbing the girl’s waist and spinning her around. â€Å"And yes, it is too late to pull out. The wedding is in two days whether you like it or not. † He added defiantly, placing the dizzy woman on the ground. She hiccupped, trying to gain her balance. Her fiance let out a thunderous laugh, she glared at him. â€Å"Don’t laugh at me! It’s your fault! † She groaned, folding her arms across her chest. â€Å"The alcohol’s got to your head then? Oh well, more fun for me! † He said, waggling his eyebrows suggestively. She rolled her eyes and ran in the direction of the sea. â€Å"Race you to the water! † She called over her shoulder childishly. She heard her fiance chuckle from behind her as she reached the water. She started walking further out to sea; her heart skipped a beat as her fiance tackled her to the ground. She yelped, a sudden spark of pain running through her foot. â€Å"Ow! Adam, you’ve made me cut my foot! Thanks! † The woman complained, playfully slapping Adam’s chest. He looked at her, a mischievous glint in his eye. â€Å"Oh, I’m sorry Nicky. Should I kiss it better?† Her fiance asked, grabbing her leg with tender hands. â€Å"No you should not! Help me up and let’s swim! † Nicky said excitedly. Adam lifted her out of the shallow water and carried her the rest of the way out, before very carefully dropping her back into the water. Together they swam around in the salty, inky black sea. Nicky felt a strong force knock her left foot from below her. â€Å"Adam, did you just knock my foot? † She asked him, worried something was under her. â€Å"Nope wasn’t me! I wouldn’t worry about it my love. Nothing out here can hurt you.† He swam over to her, grabbing her hand in his. All thoughts and worries disappeared from thought as they kissed passionately in the moonlight. â€Å"I love you Nicky foster. † Her fiance stated truthfully, gazing into her eyes. â€Å"I lo-â€Å"Suddenly they were pulled under water. Nicky let go of Adams hand and swam to the surface, looking around her frantically for her fiance. She quickly regained her breath before going back under water but he couldn’t see a thing in the murky, dark depths of the sea. Nicky resurfaced. Panic clouding her mind. Unexpectedly a hand rose out of the water, she let out a gasp of shock as she pulled at the hand and screamed, pure horror now coursing through her veins. The object in her hands belonged on her Adam’s arm. The bone was exposed, muscle and flesh was ragged and torn, fresh warm blood was dripping onto Nicky’s hand. Salty tears ran down her face, mixing with the gentle current. She threw the hand into the sea and tried to swim for shore, but her left leg was searing with pain. A wave of nausea passed over her as Nicky, teary eyed and heartbroken felt down her leg. To her utter terror, her leg had been ripped to shreds, blood pulsing from the stub. She panicked, thrashing around in the cold water. Swiftly a great force pulled her under. She could feel her bones being crunched, her organs being squished. The sea around her turned red with her blood. She screamed, only small bubbles of precious oxygen escaping her bloodless lips. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine Adam, the sweet loving man she was going to marry. Instead all she could think of was images of his ripped, lifeless body. These images haunted her to her death.

However, her sudden development of courage is exemplified when she goes to visit her father in California. Maya gets into an argument with her father’s girlfriend, Dolores, and apparently, Dolores ends up calling Maya’s mother a whore. The â€Å"new† Maya, filled with anger, responded by slapping Dolores across the face. However, when she got older, she realized that she needed to do something on her own. As a result, she went out and found herself a job. Being a black girl, finding a job was not simple, but she managed without giving up. Her sedulous work granted her the position as the first black trolley conductor in San Francisco. She had succeeded independently and did not give up without putting up a fight.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Maya’s one month stay in the junkyard taught her how to trust again. After the rape incident, Maya became very insecure and kept to herself most of the time. However, in the junkyard, she built a special camaraderie with her fellow run-away friends and was able to trust again. The open acceptance by her peers wiped away the feeling of insecurity that she had felt for such a long time. They initiated her into â€Å"the brotherhood of man†. They accepted Maya for the person she was inside; completely disregarding the color of her skin. How Earth Supports Life Essay

Basically, Earth is not the only planet that supports life. In a broader sense, Earth is the only planet capable of supporting complex life forms. Other planets and their moons can sustain life such as that of bacteria but only the Earth can constitute evolution into more complex species. Major components that sustain life are water and oxygen and only Earth has an abundant supply of both. Futuristic views point to Mars as another planet which is capable of sustaining life because it is able to sustain life for bacteria and there are traces of water and oxygen. However, one problem is that all water on Mars is frozen in its polar ice caps. Earth is the only planet that is strategically positioned wherein water can remain in its liquid state in order to sustain life (Springboard Magazine). The Earth also has the right temperature levels. Mercury and Venus are too close to the Sun that the heat would make it impossible to sustain life. Also, there is no sign of water on the planet. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are positioned way too far from the Sun resulting in extremely cold temperatures which makes it impossible for humans or any other life forms to survive. On the other hand, Jupiter and Saturn are formed from gas. Hydrogen, methane and helium make up the atmosphere of these two planets. They have no oxygen which is essential in sustaining life (Springboard Magazine). The Earth’s size and position also plays an important factor in the planets ability to preserve life. If the planet is larger, the pull of gravity would be greater which would affect the organisms living in the planet in a sense that hydrogen will not be able to escape from the atmosphere. On the other hand, if the pull of gravity was less, oxygen would escape from the atmosphere which would make it impossible to sustain life. The planet’s rotation period is also perfect otherwise; plant life would not be able to survive (A Planet Perfect for Life) These are just some of the factors that describe why the Earth is perfect for the sustainability of life, particularly the complex life forms. Although there are discoveries that may prove that there are other planets that may be similar to the Earth that may support life, it is difficult to confirm because of such great distances. Scientists can only make assumptions based on evidence but now, the only planet that is known to sustain human life is the Earth. Works Cited Only Earth Supports Life. Springboard Magazine. Question: Discuss About The Project Management Professional A Deluxe? Answer: Introduction This report depicts the importance of developing proper project initiation, planning and execution plan so that any project could be implemented within the estimated budget and cost as well. The purpose of the report is to develop the project initiation, planning and execution details. However, the main purpose is to develop a proper project initiation, planning and execution plan for Jeff and Kelly so that could implement their shifting plan successfully within estimated time phase. The date of Jeffs joining was decided to be 5th February thus they have to shift to their new flat before 5th February. They have decided to complete their entire shifting within 28th January. In order to accomplish the shifting project the project head should divide the activities according to the project requirement. The phases those are needed to be maintained by the project manager include project initiation, planning and execution. In the initial phase Jeff and Kelly have decided certain activities, however in order to accomplish the entire shifting it is necessary to modify some of the activities. The need for project schedule changes and the updated or revised milestone are also elaborated in this report. The project status detailing completion slips and delays From the project background the details of dates and time span, needed to commence and complete the entire shifting project, are estimated easily by the project head. With the help of the project schedule the project manager will be able to complete the shifting within estimated time and cost. Jeff has to report to the new job designation on 5th February,2018 and thus they have to complete the entire shifting before 27th January though they have time for shifting up to 4th February, 2018. They have to vacate their existing house within 20th January and thus Jeff and Kelly have to stay in a hotel room for the rest of the days up to 5th February, 2018 as they do not have any relative in Sunshine Coast. For this particular project the phases those have been considered include Shifting initiation In the project shifting initiation phase, Jeff and Kelly are needed to consider all the process and procedures accurately. Based on the changes project activity dates and time span are needed to be measured by the project manager so that the project could be completed within the estimated budget and time as well. They have to shift to Perth with two children and their dog. They have to talk to the transport company (both the movers and packers) so that they could easily transfer their vehicles to the new place. They have hired the transportation company to move their vehicles according to the requirement. The transportation company is responsible to move two of their cars to the new place with proper security. Planning for shifting and packing In this particular phase the project head is needed to plan for the relevant shifting and packing processes. In order to accomplish the entire shifting proper time schedule and budget is needed to be estimated by the project head. For shifting the cars and large furniture securely without any damage proper packing is also needed to be done by the project manager. Project preparation The considered background scenario of the project is about the room shifting of Kelly and Jeff with their two children and dog from sunshine coast to Perth. Mainly the shifting is required to be done by Jeff due to the promotion as a marketing director interstate. In this phase, proper budget and time schedule are also required to be estimated by the Kelly and Jeff. Implementation of shifting plan In order to implement the shifting plan Jeff and Kelly are needed to consider all the necessary activities. Even the already planned activities should also be modified according to the project needs. Project closure In the project closure phase, Jeff and Kelly are needed to understand each of the activities associated to the project. It would help them to enhance the safety, functionality and economy altogether. Implication of the project changes Before implementation of house shifting project proper packers and movers are needed to be hired by Kelly and Jeff. Among these different activities, some activities are modified in the current room shifting project. The project activities are implemented for the house shifting project so that they could obtain the followings: To reduce the rate of failure To eliminate confusion To make the changes faster To implement the changes accordingly Changes incorporate to the project schedule In order to complete the project implication of different changes are needed to be implemented by Kelly and Jeff. It is their responsibility to accomplish the task within estimated time and budget as well. The modified activity list and responsible person are as follows: Gantt chart WBS Task Name Duration Start Finish Predecessors Resource Names 1 Project initiation 28 days Mon 2/12/18 Wed 3/21/18 1.1 Estimation of time for house shifting 8 days Mon 2/12/18 Wed 2/21/18 Jeff 1.2 Budget estimation 4 days Thu 2/22/18 Tue 2/27/18 2 Kelly 1.3 Project planning 6 days Wed 2/28/18 Wed 3/7/18 3 both Kelly and Jeff 1.4 List of items to be shifted 3 days Thu 3/8/18 Mon 3/12/18 4 Jeff 1.5 Hiring transportation company 7 days Tue 3/13/18 Wed 3/21/18 5 Jeff 2 Planning for packing furniture 9 days Tue 3/13/18 Fri 3/23/18 2.1 Planning for packing cars 2 days Tue 3/13/18 Wed 3/14/18 5 both Kelly and Jeff 2.2 Hotel booking 4 days Thu 3/15/18 Tue 3/20/18 8 both Kelly and Jeff 2.3 Elimination of unwanted stuffs 2 days Wed 3/21/18 Thu 3/22/18 9 Kelly 2.4 Payment approach development 3 days Wed 3/21/18 Fri 3/23/18 9 both Kelly and Jeff 3 Project preparation 19 days Fri 3/23/18 Wed 4/18/18 3.1 Labeling the important item to avoid loss and damage 4 days Fri 3/23/18 Wed 3/28/18 10 Jeff 3.2 Application drafting 5 days Thu 3/29/18 Wed 4/4/18 13 Jeff 3.3 Pending utility clearances 3 days Thu 3/29/18 Mon 4/2/18 11,13 Kelly 3.4 Shifting project implementation 4 days Thu 4/5/18 Tue 4/10/18 14 Jeff 3.5 Utility subscription cancelation 6 days Tue 4/3/18 Tue 4/10/18 15 both Kelly and Jeff 3.6 House cleaning 4 days Wed 4/11/18 Mon 4/16/18 16 Jeff 3.7 Partial payment 2 days Wed 4/11/18 Thu 4/12/18 16 both Kelly and Jeff 3.8 Cars transport 3 days Wed 4/11/18 Fri 4/13/18 16,17 Kelly 3.9 Payment completion 2 days Tue 4/17/18 Wed 4/18/18 18 Jeff 4 Project closure 4 days Thu 4/19/18 Tue 4/24/18 4.1 Final date considerate for complete shifting 2 days Thu 4/19/18 Fri 4/20/18 21 both Kelly and Jeff 4.2 End of shifting 2 days Mon 4/23/18 Tue 4/24/18 23 both Kelly and Jeff Personal reflection on the process I have realized that the time estimated for the house shifting is very limited and within that limited time phase it is difficult to accomplish the entire task securely. Before planning and implementing the project the project activities are needed to be understood accurately by Kelly and Jeff. For this particular project triple project constraints have been selected including time, budget and scope. They should leave their current house within 20th January and must complete the shift within 27th January. On the other hand the total budget estimated for the project is $5000. I have also learned that, based on the project budget, some of the project activities are needed to be modified rather should be done simultaneously. Conclusion From the overall discussion it can be concluded that, in order to accomplish the shifting project it is necessary for the project head to consider three basic project phases in terms of initiation, planning and execution. For this particular shifting Jeff and Kelly both are responsible to develop the project schedule and activities. It is expected that, if all of these steps are maintained accurately by both Jeff and Kelly, then the project will be completed within estimated time and project budget as well. As Jeff is currently posted as a marketing director thus they have to change their current location. After detailing the project report, the completion, slips and delay details are also elaborated accurately. The reasons for which the changes are found to be necessary to implemented are also elaborated in this report. Apart from this, the details of adjustment, incorporated to the project schedule and need for the modification are demonstrated in this report. From the entire proje ct discussion it has been found that, if all of these aspects are followed accurately by the project manager, then the project will be completed within estimated budget and cost as well. Legacy From The Middle Ages Essays - Education, Crafts, Guild

Legacy from the Middle ages Many cultural advancements were made during the Dark Ages which lasted between 500AD and 1000AD. Culture can be divided into five distinct categories such as religion/philosophy, government, science, art/architecture and language/literature. During the Middle ages, there was a great advancement in theology and many of todays finest universities were built such as the Oxford University and some others in Paris and Rome. In the early 20th century, many other universities were built using the First universities as a base. Oxford University still exists, as one of the most respected school in the world. There were also a lot of religious conflicts mainly between Muslims and Christians over the possession of Constantinople. Although the crusades were overall a failure, historians believe that is was the most important failure in history as it broke off Feudalism and changed peoples thinking. In government, there was a significant change when in 1215, Magna Carta was signed, stating that not even the King is above the law. This period of time can also be seen as the beginning of true representative government which almost every system of government is based upon today. Guilds were also established in this period. They were groups of people with the same skills. They met to control the economy by changing the price, quantity and quality. There are more of these guilds today, as different associations which control the price of raw materials. The guilds in the Dark ages gave more power to ordinary workers and helped the representative government. Although not many scientific discoveries were made during the Middle ages, the study of alchemy helped later scientist to find scientific facts about each element and its usage. In architecture the Romanesque style was perfected through churches, which was later dominated by the Gothic style, which became the international mode of building in the future. In paintings, more detail was given to the emotional side and to nature. Reading and writing became a very common skill as for the first time in the vernacular languages, written work was made public for leisure. Many writings dealt with the complexity of life and with romance. A lot of the cultural advancements established during the Middle ages can be seen today, often as the base of our culture. Many things changed during the Dark ages and that is why it is considered one of the most important period of time in History
